No, no, no, no, no…yes! The Vicar of Dibley comes to Chelmsford Theatre Workshop!
Staying as true as possible to the beloved BBC sitcom staring Dawn French, the long suffering and beloved Vicar of the small fictional village of Dibley.
We are staging two classic festive episodes. The first is The Christmas Lunch Incident in which Geraldine agrees to a few too many Christmas dinners to keep her hapless parishioners happy. Our second episode is Winter which attempts to retell the birth of Jesus with a rather realistic conclusion.
This production is being co directed by Kat Tokley and Rob Whitfield. Kat had this to say about taking on the Christmas production:
“The Vicar of Dibley is a part of my childhood memories, particularly around Christmas. Mum would ‘book’ the TV with my dad (he doesn’t watch much TV made after 1975) and it was one of those ‘sshhhh, not now, it’s on’ programmes we would pile onto the sofa together to watch with anticipation. The familiarity and reliability of the characters, the quaint touches of village life, the hilarity of the simplest of comedic lines delivered with impeccable timing; it’s like an old pair of slippers you sink into and pad around the house in. I want to recreate this feeling for the audience. In the time before mobile phones and tablets, pings and notifications, when someone came to your door for a chat rather than reading Facebook updates. Today it’s working in our favour with advertising this opportunity for a nostalgic night at our little local theatre, where we hope to bring to you the feeling of the good old days of television gold.”
